Robert B. Post
Born in El Monte California
During my first years of school, my only interest was drawing. Much to my teacher’s surprise, I would draw on desktops, walls, and anything that would hold ink. I took lessons drawing from my brother-in-law, who was an illustrator for NASA.
Throughout high school, I focused primarily on art classes and received top marks.
I began my studies at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco on a work scholarship. Learning and creating, it was one of the best experiences of my life. I still have those paintings.
In Boston, I began studies in printmaking at the Massachusetts College of Art. I bought a camera and began working in photo silk screening. I found photography to be another exciting medium, and began creating fine art photo images at the New England School of Photography. While studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, I was working as an art editor for Arts magazine and contributed my photography to arts and poetry publications. I also began photographing punk rock and Rock & Roll bands. I had a number of images published in magazines and local newspapers and began winning awards and prizes.
The artwork you see before you are a reflection of my life in all of its facets. Although I have studied art history extensively, I rely on an inner feeling to cue my painting. I prefer this to over intellectualizing any work. I paint from my gut.
My erotic works reflect the turbulence/violence, passion/love, friction/flow of human relations and the tension within the self.
I paint because I must. I could not, would not continue to live without being able to express myself. Life is a great and wondrous things and I am part of it.
